HazardTracer respects your privacy and is committed to protecting personal data processed through the HazardTracer website, mobile applications and related services.

This Privacy Policy explains what information may be collected when you use HazardTracer, why it is processed, how it may be shared, how long it may be retained and the rights available to you under applicable data-protection law.

This Privacy Policy applies to:

the HazardTracer website;
HazardTracer mobile applications for Android and iOS
services and functionality made available through the website or mobile applications
communications between users and HazardTracer

2. Information we may process

The information processed when you use HazardTracer depends on how you access the service, which features you use, your device settings and the privacy choices you make.

2.1 Location information

HazardTracer is a location-based hazard-awareness service. To display hazards around a relevant area, you may:

manually search for and select a city, region or location
allow the website or mobile application to access your device location, where this feature is available.

Where device location permission is requested, access is subject to the permission controls provided by your browser, Android device or Apple device. You can refuse or revoke location permission through those settings.

HazardTracer uses location information for providing location-based functionality, such as identifying relevant hazards around your selected or current area.

HazardTracer does not intentionally create a permanent history of your precise device location for its own purposes unless a particular feature expressly informs you otherwise.

However, third-party service providers used by the website or mobile application, particularly advertising, analytics, mapping or infrastructure providers, may process IP addresses or other technical information from which an approximate location may be inferred. Depending on your permissions, consent choices and the configuration of those services, additional location-related information may also be processed by them.

2.2 Technical and usage information

When you access HazardTracer, certain technical information may automatically be processed. This may include:

device type
operating system
application version
language and general regional settings
date and time of access
pages or screens viewed
interaction with website or application features
referring pages or sources
diagnostic and crash information
security and server-log information

This information may be required for the operation, security, troubleshooting and improvement of HazardTracer.

2.3 Advertising information

HazardTracer is supported in part through advertising. Advertisements may be displayed on the website and within the mobile applications.

We may use Google advertising services, including Google AdSense on the website and Google AdMob / Google Mobile Ads in mobile applications.

advertising identifiers
app-specific or device identifiers
general location derived from an IP address
advertisements displayed to you
interactions with advertisements
application interactions
diagnostic and performance information
cookie or similar technology identifiers

Depending on applicable law, your consent choices, your Google advertising settings and your device settings, advertisements may be personalised, non-personalised, contextual, limited or otherwise restricted.

Advertising providers operate under their own privacy policies and may act as independent controllers for certain processing activities.

2.4 Analytics information

HazardTracer may use analytics services, including Google Analytics, to understand how visitors use the website and to improve the performance, usability and content of the service.

Analytics information may include pages visited, session duration, approximate geographic information, device and browser characteristics, interactions with the service and related technical information.

Where required by applicable law, non-essential analytics technologies will only be activated after appropriate consent has been obtained.

2.5 Information you provide to us

If you contact HazardTracer by email, contact form or another communication method, we may process information you voluntarily provide, including:

the subject of your communication
the contents of your message

4. Legal bases for processing

Where the GDPR applies, HazardTracer relies on one or more of the following legal bases:

Legitimate interests: where processing is reasonably necessary to operate, secure, maintain and improve HazardTracer, respond to communications or protect the service against misuse, provided those interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms.
Performance of a contract or steps at your request: where processing is necessary to provide a service or respond to a request made by you.
Legal obligations: where processing is required by applicable law.

Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before consent was withdrawn.

5. Advertising and personalised advertising

HazardTracer may display advertising in order to support the operation and continued availability of the service.

Advertising may be delivered by third-party advertising providers such as Google. These providers may use cookies, advertising identifiers, device information and similar technologies to deliver, limit, measure and protect advertising.

Where required by applicable law, HazardTracer will request an appropriate privacy choice before enabling personalised advertising or other advertising-related processing that requires consent.

Refusing personalised advertising does not necessarily mean that you will stop seeing advertisements. You may instead receive contextual, non-personalised or limited advertisements.

You may also have advertising privacy controls available through your Google account, Android settings, Apple privacy settings or other device-level controls.

6. Cookies and similar technologies

The HazardTracer website may use cookies and similar technologies.

These technologies may fall into the following categories:

Strictly necessary technologies – required for the operation, security or essential functionality of the website and for storing privacy preferences.
Preference technologies – used to remember choices such as language or display preferences.

You control mobile permissions through your Android or iOS device settings. Refusing a permission may prevent the related feature from functioning, but should not prevent access to unrelated functionality unless technically necessary.

8. Third parties with whom information may be shared

HazardTracer does not sell or rent your directly identifying personal information.

Information may, however, be processed or shared with categories of service providers necessary to operate and support HazardTracer, including:

hosting and infrastructure providers
content-delivery and security providers
analytics providers
advertising providers
mapping, geolocation or geocoding providers
technical service providers
application-store operators such as Google and Apple
professional advisers or public authorities where required by law

Third-party providers may process information according to their own privacy policies where they act as independent controllers.

HazardTracer may use Google services including Google Analytics, Google AdSense, Google AdMob / Google Mobile Ads and other supporting Google technologies.

Google may process information from websites and applications that use its services, including technical identifiers, IP addresses, advertising information and interaction information.

10. International transfers

Some service providers used by HazardTracer may process information outside Greece or outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”).

Where personal data protected by the GDPR is transferred outside the EEA, appropriate safeguards will be relied upon where required, such as an adequacy decision adopted by the European Commission, Standard Contractual Clauses or another legally recognised transfer mechanism.

11. How long information is retained

HazardTracer retains personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was processed, subject to applicable legal requirements.

Retention is determined according to the type of information and its purpose. For example:

contact communications may be retained until the enquiry is resolved and for a reasonable period afterwards where necessary to document the communication
security and technical logs may be retained for the period reasonably necessary to investigate errors, abuse, security incidents or legal claims
consent preferences may be retained so that the service can remember your privacy choices
analytics and advertising information processed by third-party providers is retained according to the relevant provider’s settings and retention policies
information may be retained for longer where required by law or necessary for the establishment, exercise or defence of legal claims

When information is no longer required, it will be deleted, anonymised or otherwise handled in accordance with applicable law.

HazardTracer takes reasonable technical and organisational measures intended to protect information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, loss or misuse.

However, no internet service, mobile application, electronic transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Users should therefore take appropriate precautions when transmitting information online.

Where the GDPR applies, you may have the following rights, subject to the conditions and limitations provided by law:

Right of access – to request information about personal data concerning you and obtain a copy where applicable.
Right to rectification – to request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
Right to erasure – to request deletion of personal data in circumstances provided by law.
Right to restriction – to request restriction of processing in certain circumstances.

14. Children

HazardTracer is a general-audience hazard-information service and is not designed to knowingly request unnecessary personal information from children.

Where consent is legally required for processing personal data and a user is below the applicable age at which they may provide that consent independently, authorisation from a parent or holder of parental responsibility may be required in accordance with applicable law.

Advertising services may also apply age-related restrictions, limited-ad settings or other protections in accordance with applicable law and the relevant advertising provider’s policies.

15. External websites and services

HazardTracer may contain advertisements, links or references to external websites, applications or services operated by third parties.

This Privacy Policy does not govern the privacy practices of those independent third parties. Users should review the privacy information provided by the relevant external service before providing personal information to it.

16. App stores

If you download HazardTracer through Google Play or the Apple App Store, Google or Apple may independently process information associated with downloading, installing, updating or using applications through their platforms.

Such processing is governed by the privacy policies and terms of the relevant app-store provider and is separate from processing carried out directly by HazardTracer.

17. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in HazardTracer, the technologies we use, applicable laws or regulatory requirements.

The date shown at the top of this page indicates when the Privacy Policy was most recently updated.

Where a change materially affects how personal data is processed, additional notice or renewed consent will be provided where required by law.
