These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the HazardTracer website, HazardTracer mobile applications and related services.

By accessing or using HazardTracer, you acknowledge that you have read and understood these Terms and agree to use the service in accordance with them and with applicable law.

If you do not agree with these Terms, you should not use HazardTracer.

1. About HazardTracer

HazardTracer is an informational and situational-awareness service that helps users discover information relating to natural hazards, extreme events and potential hazard indicators around locations of interest.

The service may be available through:

• the HazardTracer website
• mobile applications for Android and iOS
• other related services made available by HazardTracer

2. Informational purpose only

HazardTracer is provided for general information and situational awareness. It is not an emergency service, official warning system, emergency communications service or substitute for information issued by public authorities.

Information displayed by HazardTracer may originate from satellites, sensors, government agencies, scientific organisations, third-party data providers and other external information sources.

HazardTracer may aggregate, process, filter, categorise or geographically display such information to make it easier for users to explore.

During an emergency or potentially dangerous situation, you should rely on instructions and warnings issued by competent emergency services, civil-protection authorities, meteorological authorities, geological authorities, local government or other official sources.

3. Hazard information is not guaranteed

Natural hazards are complex and may develop rapidly. Information may be delayed, incomplete, unavailable, inaccurate, incorrectly classified or affected by technical, observational or reporting limitations.

HazardTracer therefore does not guarantee:

• that every hazardous event will be detected or displayed
• that displayed information is complete or error-free
• that information is available in real time
• that a marker represents the exact geographic boundaries of an event
• that an alert will develop into a confirmed hazardous event
• that the absence of an alert means an area is safe
• that any natural event can be reliably predicted before it occurs

Users must not interpret HazardTracer as providing a guarantee of safety.

4. Fire alerts and satellite detections

Fire-related indicators require particular care when being interpreted.

A fire alert or thermal detection displayed by HazardTracer does not necessarily confirm that an active wildfire exists at the exact location displayed.

Satellite instruments may detect thermal anomalies caused by fires or by other heat-producing sources. Cloud cover, smoke, satellite coverage, observation times, sensor limitations and other factors may affect detection.

Multiple or high-confidence detections in an area may provide a stronger indication of possible fire activity, but users should verify conditions through competent official authorities and emergency-information sources.

5. No emergency or professional advice

HazardTracer does not provide emergency-management, meteorological, geological, medical, engineering, aviation, maritime, travel, insurance, legal or other professional advice.

You should not make safety-critical decisions solely on the basis of information displayed by HazardTracer.

If you are in immediate danger, contact the appropriate local emergency service and follow instructions from competent authorities.

6. Your responsibility when using HazardTracer

You are responsible for how you use and interpret information displayed by HazardTracer.

You agree to:

• use HazardTracer only for lawful purposes
• exercise independent judgement when assessing hazardous conditions
• consult official information where personal safety, property or important decisions are involved
• avoid representing HazardTracer information as an official government warning unless the underlying information clearly originates from such an authority
• comply with applicable laws and third-party platform terms

7. Prohibited use

You must not use HazardTracer in a way that may damage the service, interfere with its operation or violate applicable law.

Without appropriate permission, you must not:

• attempt to gain unauthorised access to HazardTracer systems or infrastructure
• introduce malware, viruses or harmful code
• circumvent technical or security restrictions
• perform automated activity that places an unreasonable load on the service
• misuse HazardTracer to mislead, threaten, defraud or harm another person
• remove copyright, trademark, attribution or proprietary notices
• copy or commercially redistribute proprietary HazardTracer content in violation of applicable intellectual-property rights
• use HazardTracer in violation of the rights of HazardTracer, its data providers or other third parties

8. Third-party information and data sources

A substantial part of the value of HazardTracer depends on information supplied by independent third-party sources.

HazardTracer does not control all underlying data and cannot guarantee its continued availability, completeness, accuracy, timing or geographic precision.

Third-party providers may modify, delay, discontinue, restrict or correct their datasets independently of HazardTracer.

Where appropriate, HazardTracer displays or provides attribution to the relevant information source.

NASA fire and hazard data

HazardTracer may use near-real-time satellite fire information derived from NASA products, including VIIRS and MODIS active-fire detections, together with other NASA Earth-observation and natural-event data.

HazardTracer acknowledges the use of data and imagery made available through NASA Earth Science services, including LANCE FIRMS where applicable.

NASA and other external organisations providing source data are not responsible for HazardTracer, its interface, interpretation of data or the manner in which users use the service.

9. Maps and geographic information

Maps, coordinates, place names, geographic boundaries and location-search functionality may depend on third-party mapping, geocoding or geographic-data services.

Map positions and boundaries are illustrative and should not be treated as authoritative surveying, navigation or emergency-response information.

10. Advertising

HazardTracer may display third-party advertising on the website and in its mobile applications.

Advertising helps support the operation and development of the service.

Advertisements may be selected and delivered by third-party advertising providers, including Google advertising services.

The appearance of an advertisement within HazardTracer does not constitute an endorsement, recommendation or guarantee by HazardTracer of the advertiser, its products, services, claims or websites.

If you interact with an advertisement, you may be directed to a third-party website or application. Any transaction, communication or relationship between you and an advertiser is between you and that third party and is subject to the third party’s own terms and privacy practices.

11. External links

HazardTracer may provide links to websites, applications, public authorities, data providers or other external resources.

External services are operated independently. HazardTracer is not responsible for their availability, content, privacy practices, security or accuracy.

12. Mobile applications and app stores

HazardTracer mobile applications may be distributed through third-party application stores, including Google Play and the Apple App Store.

Your use of the relevant app store is separately governed by the terms and policies of Google, Apple or another applicable platform provider.

The app-store provider is not responsible for the operation, content, support or hazard information supplied directly by HazardTracer except to the extent required under the relevant platform’s own terms or applicable law.

For applications downloaded through Apple’s App Store, Apple’s applicable standard end-user licence terms may also apply unless a separate licence is expressly provided.

13. Updates to the mobile applications

HazardTracer may release application updates from time to time to add functionality, improve performance, maintain compatibility, correct errors or address security issues.

Certain functionality may require an up-to-date version of the application, operating system or supporting third-party services.

14. Availability of the service

HazardTracer aims to keep the service available but does not guarantee uninterrupted or continuous operation.

The website, applications or particular features may become temporarily unavailable because of maintenance, network problems, data-provider outages, technical failures, cyber incidents, changes to third-party services or circumstances outside HazardTracer’s reasonable control.

HazardTracer may modify, replace, suspend or discontinue features where reasonably necessary, subject to mandatory rights available to users under applicable law.

15. Intellectual property

Unless otherwise indicated, the HazardTracer name, design, software, interface, original text, graphics and other original material created specifically for HazardTracer are protected by applicable intellectual-property law.

Third-party data, maps, imagery, trademarks, logos and other content remain the property of their respective owners and may be subject to separate licences or usage requirements.

You may use publicly accessible HazardTracer content for ordinary personal and non-commercial use.

Where you reproduce permitted HazardTracer material, appropriate attribution and a reference to HazardTracer should be included where reasonably applicable.

Nothing in these Terms grants you ownership of HazardTracer software, trademarks or other proprietary material.

16. Privacy

Your privacy is important to us.

Information concerning the processing of personal data, location information, cookies, analytics and advertising technologies is provided in our Privacy Policy.

17. Disclaimer of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, HazardTracer is provided on an “as available” and “as is” basis.

Except for rights and warranties that cannot legally be excluded, HazardTracer does not make warranties that:

• the service will always be available
• all hazard information will be accurate, complete or current
• every relevant hazard will be detected
• the service will be error-free
• the service will meet every user’s particular requirements
• third-party information or services will remain available

Nothing in these Terms affects statutory guarantees or mandatory consumer rights that apply to you.

18. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, HazardTracer will not be responsible for indirect, incidental or consequential losses arising solely from reliance on incomplete, delayed or inaccurate third-party hazard information where such loss could not reasonably have been prevented by HazardTracer.

Users remain responsible for obtaining official safety information and exercising reasonable judgement before making decisions concerning personal safety, evacuation, travel, property or other potentially hazardous circumstances.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation is prohibited by applicable law.

In particular, these Terms do not exclude mandatory consumer rights or liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability arising from fraud, wilful misconduct or other circumstances for which applicable law prohibits exclusion.

19. Changes to these Terms

HazardTracer may update these Terms when reasonably necessary, including to reflect:

• changes to the service
• new functionality
• changes to third-party services
• security or technical requirements
• changes in applicable law or regulatory guidance

The latest version will be published on the HazardTracer website and will display its most recent update date.

Where required by applicable law, material changes will be communicated in an appropriate manner before taking effect.

20. Governing law and consumer rights

These Terms are governed by the laws of Greece, subject to mandatory rules of applicable European Union and consumer-protection law.

If you are a consumer residing in another European Economic Area country, these Terms do not deprive you of mandatory protections that apply under the law of your habitual residence.

Any provisions concerning jurisdiction apply only to the extent permitted by mandatory consumer-protection and procedural law.

21. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held to be unlawful, invalid or unenforceable, that provision will apply only to the extent permitted by law, and the remaining provisions will continue to apply.

22. No waiver

If HazardTracer does not immediately enforce a provision of these Terms, this does not constitute a waiver of any right to enforce that provision later.
